Join renowned artist Julian Friers for a one-day course exploring the core principles of landscape painting - from the first marks on the page to the final brushstrokes on canvas.

Julian will demonstrate how to construct a painting from composition to sketch. You’ll observe, take notes and build a reference to guide your own work.

Working from your reference image, you’ll be supported throughout by Julian with one-to-one guidance. By the end of the day, you’ll head home with your own finished landscape painting.

Open to beginners and experienced painters alike.

All materials will be provided, but feel free to bring a sketchbook or iPad for notes during the first session.

Tea, coffee and snacks will be provided.

About Julian Friers

Julian Friers is one of Northern Ireland’s most respected wildlife and landscape painters. His work often explores themes of natural history, wildlife and Ireland’s lost biodiversity. In 2017, he completed a series of 20 large-scale paintings depicting animals both extinct and extant - a collaboration with palaeontologist Dr. Mike Simms. This series was acquired by the National Museums of Northern Ireland in 2019.

Julian’s paintings have been exhibited across the UK, Europe and the US, notably at the Society of Wildlife Artists in London, the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, and Ulster Museum’s Wild Ireland: Past, Present and Future exhibition.
