About

Step out of distraction and into a day of protected time for your creative ideas. Creative Sanctuary: A Winter Retreat is a day to think deeply, create with focus, and move your ideas forward.

Bring the manuscript, thesis, business idea, exhibition, screenplay, proposal, podcast, creative project, collection of half-filled notebooks or simply the scraps and beginnings of an idea you haven’t yet found the time or space to explore.

Drawing on the Creative Ashram approach to Focus + Flow, we’ll explore simple practices for working with attention, energy and creative momentum.

You'll learn how to enter and sustain states of flow, where creativity, clarity and productivity begin to align. You’ll be supported in clarifying and developing your ideas, building momentum in your work, and navigating distraction and overwhelm.

In the quietest, darkest part of the year, we’ll make space for something new to begin or for something already underway to finally move forward. This is an invitation to give yourself what so many of us struggle to find: uninterrupted time to focus, make progress and show up for the project that matters most to you.

The Day:

  • MORNING - VISION + FOCUS: We begin together, clarifying what you’re bringing and what would make the day meaningful. Through guided reflection, movement and attention practices, we’ll settle into focus and set a clear intention for the day.

  • LATE MORNING - DEEP FOCUS: Our first protected creative session. Phones away, distractions down, and uninterrupted time to get properly inside your project.

  • LUNCH + SPACE: We step away. Good food, conversation, and breathing room, with time to walk, rest, and let ideas settle.

  • AFTERNOON - CREATION: Back into the Ashram for a longer period of supported deep work. Write, sketch, map, research, wrestle, edit, explore, make decisions and move the thing forward.

  • CLOSING - MOMENTUM: We finish by looking beyond the retreat. What moved today? What did you learn about the conditions in which you work best? And, most importantly, how will you keep going?

What to Bring:

Bring your project as it is, not as you think it should be. That might be a half-written manuscript, a folder of notes, the scraps of an idea, a thesis chapter, an abandoned draft, plans for an exhibition, a podcast taking shape, a business idea, a stack of journals you’ve been meaning to revisit, a proposal waiting to be written, sketches, photographs or simply an idea you know you want to explore.

Bring whatever helps you create: your notebook and favourite pens, your laptop, research or source material, a vision board, photographs, sketches, books, or a piece of work you admire. You might even bring an example of something that makes you think, I want to make something like this.

You don’t need a polished project or a perfect plan.

Bring your scraps. Bring your drafts. Bring your spark.

We’ll create the space for you to sit down with it.

About Elizabeth

Elizabeth Welty is the founder of Creative Ashram, a space where creativity, focus, and meaningful work can flourish.

For over twenty-five years, Elizabeth has worked at the intersection of education, wellbeing, and human potential, helping people reconnect with their ideas, overcome self-doubt, and bring meaningful projects into form. She holds a PhD in Education from Queen's University Belfast and is a senior yoga teacher and meditation guide. Part teacher, part guide, and part enthusiastic champion of unfinished ideas, she blends neuroscience, mindfulness, movement, and practical creative tools to help people move from inspiration into action. Whether working with writers, entrepreneurs, artists, academics, or curious humans carrying a dream for years, Elizabeth's approach is warm, practical, and deeply encouraging.

She believes creativity isn't reserved for a gifted few. It is a fundamentally human capacity that can be cultivated through attention, practice, and the courage to begin. When she's not facilitating retreats, you'll usually find her in the forest, on the dance floor, teaching yoga, scribbling ideas in notebooks, or helping someone take the next small step towards something that matters.
