This month’s screening: An Taibhse (The Ghost)
In post-famine Ireland, a father and daughter take work as caretakers of an isolated mansion. As winter closes in, the struggle to survive gives way to the horrors inside the house. An Taibhse (The Ghost) is the first-ever Irish language horror film, executive produced by six-time Oscar nominee Jim Sheridan. John Farrelly wrote and directed the film, which screens with English subtitles.
Bring a drink and settle in. Whether you're revisiting a favourite or seeing it for the first time, all are welcome.
In Éirinn, i ndiaidh an Ghorta Mhóir, glacann athair agus iníon le hobair mar fheighlithe i dteach mór iargúlta. Le titim an ghreimhridh, tagann uafáis an tí in áit ag streachailt leis an saol.
Is é An Taibhse (The Ghost) an chéad scannán uafáis riamh trí mheán na Gaeilge, le Jim Sheridan, (ainmnithe sé huaire do ghradam Oscar) mar léiritheoir feidhmiúcháin. John Farrelly a scríobh agus a stiúraigh an scannán, agus tá sé craolta le fótheidil i mBéarla.
Tóg deoch leat agus socraigh isteach. Más athchuairt é duitse ar an scannán is fearr leat nó ag amharc air don chéad uair atá tú, beidh fáilte roimh chách.
